How it works

How it works

  • Metric formula: BMI = weight(kg) / height(m)^2. Example: 75 kg / (1.80 m)^2 ≈ 23.15.
  • Imperial shortcut: BMI = (weight(lb) × 703) / height(in)^2. The 703 factor converts lb/in to kg/m.
  • Typical categories: <18.5 Underweight, 18.5–24.9 Normal, 25.0–29.9 Overweight, ≥30 Obese.
  • Rounding: This tool shows two decimals; medical tools may use different precision.
  • Context: BMI is a rough screening metric; body composition, age, and sex are not accounted for.
